Dr. Henry Mack serves as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor, overseeing the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. Prior to his federal appointment, he held a variety of leadership roles in higher education and workforce development.

From 2019 to 2023, Dr. Mack served as Florida’s Chancellor for higher education and workforce systems. In that role, he oversaw Florida’s public and nonpublic institutions of higher education, managing a budget of more than $3 billion and serving approximately 1.5 million K-20 students annually. He led the Divisions of Florida Colleges, Career and Adult Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Blind Services, the Office of Workforce Education and Economic Alignment and the Commission for Independent Education. He was also responsible for the state’s workforce education strategy, operations, policy, finance, grants and legislative priorities.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Mack served as a provost, vice president and chief innovation officer. He has also held faculty appointments at Florida International University, Florida State University and the University of Miami, where he taught philosophy of education, education policy and philosophy of religion.

Dr. Mack earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy and theology from The Catholic University of America and a doctorate in education administration and philosophy of education from the University of Miami.
